Winona Ryder starved herself to cry on camera.
The actress says that in order to play the emotionally-charged role of Sandra in 'The Private Life of Pippa Lee' she had to alter her diet regime to get in the right mood.
She explained: "I try to fill up on food in the morning because I won't eat much for the rest of the day. Especially with this movie, it's hard to stay really emotional on a full stomach. Like there has to be this weird craving going on if you have to cry. It's a weird thing.
Sandra is such a basket case
"I was thinking that the only scenes where I didn't have to break down were at the dining-room table. Sandra is such a basket case.”
Winona says she was most nervous about having to show flashes of humour with her character amongst the dramatic tone of the film.
She added to Elle magazine: "Part of what made me nervous about playing the part was the humour of the drama and making that work. I was very nervous and insecure about pulling it off. But then, I could use the insecurity because Sandra is insecure.”
