Zac Efron has admitted that the emotional roles are much scarier but he wanted to try his hand at something new.
The High school Musical star is back on the big screen next month with his new movie Charlie St Cloud, which follows a young man after the death of his brother.
And while Efron has shot to fame with the likes of High School Musical and his last movie 17 Again he reveals that this role was a huge challenge.
Speaking to the Evening Standard: "There were a lot of things that were lucrative and exciting but I had already been in that world, I knew I could do it, there was nothing scary.
"And this was like a huge chance that I could completely fall on my face and fail.
"It's one thing to be funny and to be the man in movies but to put your heart and soul out there is very difficult."
"I also had personal connection with the character because I have a brother Dylan, four and a half years younger."
Charlie St Cloud is released 8th October.
