A Funny Kind of Love is set to hit the big screen next week and it will see actor Josh Lawson make the leap into the director's chair for the first time.

A Funny Kind of Love

Lawson will director, write, and star in the new comedy and it is a film that has taken eight years to make and release. This will be the second directorial project for Lawson after short film After The Credits back in 2010.

We caught up with Lawson to chat about the film and making the move behind the camera - which will be on the site on Monday - and now we have an exclusive clip to share with you:

Lawson is joined on the cast by Bojana Novakovic, Kate Mulvany, Damon Herriman, Kate Box, Patrick Brammall, Alan Dukes, and Lisa McCune as they take on the roles of Paul, Maeve, Evie, Dan, Rowena, Rich, Phil, and Maureen.

A Funny Kind of Love follows five suburban couples who navigate their way through the bedroom as sexual fetishes, from the run-of-the-mill to the hilariously obscure, push their relationships to new boundaries.

For Maeve and Paul, toes are just the foothold of their desires, while next door neighbours Evie and Dan are all dressed up, but will role play expose marital flaws which they can't pretend away? Across the road, Rowena and Rich's intimate antics bring them close to tears, while just around the corner, Phil begins an affair with his own wife Maureen, but without her realising it...

We are going to see a handful of actors make their directorial debuts in 2015 - Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling have already played there hand - and I cannot wait to see what Lawson is set to deliver with this comedy.

A Funny Kind of Love has already been playing well on the festival circuit and has picked up an Audience Award at SXSW.

A Funny Kind of Love is in cinemas nationwide from 8th May.
