Ridley Scott returns to his fan-favourite franchise with Covenant, bringing a brand new cast made up of Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, James Franco, Demian Bichir and many other talented names.

The official plot synopsis for the film reads: “Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with Alien: Covenant, a new chapter in his groundbreaking Alien franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.”

From what we’ve seen of the Alien series in the past, not many can survive the dangers of extra-terrestrial life that Ridley Scott brings to the big screen, so it’s going to be interesting to see exactly who makes it through what seems like a soft reboot of the franchise.

Of course, no official word has come yet on whether this will be the start of a whole new series fronted by a new face after Ellen Ripley’s (Sigourney Weaver) adventures, but fans are already getting excited about the prospect of future flicks being added to the franchise.

Alien: Covenant comes to cinemas and IMAX in the UK on May 12, 2017.
