Angelina Jolie is set to direct a movie about poaching and Richard Leakey's battle to stop it.

The drama has been penned by Eric Roth, and will focus on Leakey; the African born conservationist who has fought hard to stop illegal ivory poaching in a national park in Kenya.

Jolie, who will take up the director's chair for the film, and says that she was really drawn to Roth's screenplay.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress said: "I've felt a deep connection to Africa and its culture for much of my life," Angelina said.

"I was taken by Eric's beautiful script about a man drawn into the violent conflict with elephant poachers who emerged with a deeper understanding of man's footprint and a profound sense of responsibility for the world around him."

This will be the fourth feature film for Jolie as director, and she cements herself as a major filmmaker.

Unbroken is one of the most anticipated films of the end of 2014, as Jolie tells the remarkable true story of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner who taken prisoner by the Japanese during the Second World War.

Unbroken will hit the big screen on 26th December, and is already being tipped as a possible Oscar contender.

Jolie is currently filming By The Sea with Brad Pitt. The movie sees Jolie and Pitt reunite in front of the camera, while Jolie directs Pitt for the first time.
