The screenwriter will return for the Marvel Studios sequel to most likely pen more comedic quips for Paul Rudd who plays the titular shrinking superhero.

Speaking about the sequel to the 2015 'Ant-Man' film, McKay said: "We've been talking to Marvel actually. We just talked to them the other day, and it looks like I will be involved. I don't know if it's going to be right from page one. But it looks like I will definitely be involved."

The 47-year-old filmmaker - who has been nominated for an Oscar for his work on 'The Big Short' - also previously collaborated with Rudd on 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy', co-writing the script with Will Ferrell.

The script for the second film in the franchise will be jointly written by Rudd, McKay, Gabriel Ferrari and Andrew Barrer, while Peyton Reed will once again take the director's seat.

Rudd will be joined by Evangeline Lilly, who played Hope van Dyne in the first film and will be donning the Wasp shrinking suit in the sequel.

Michael Douglas is expected to return as scientist Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man and the person responsible for creating the suit after he discovered the subatomic particles that made shrinking possible.

'Ant-Man and the Wasp' is the twentieth instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while also being the eighth instalment of Phase Three, and McKay has expressed an interest in expanding on the story and writing a solo Wasp movie for Marvel Studios at some point in the future.

'Ant-Man and the Wasp' is currently scheduled for release July 6, 2018.
