Apocalypse is one of the 2016 film characters that I cannot wait to see on screen and he takes centre stage in this great new poster from X-Men: Apocalypse.

X-Men: Apocalypse

This is the second poster from X-Men: Apocalypse that we have been treated to in the last week and the first to feature a major character from the upcoming film.

The movie sees Oscar Isaac take on the role of Apocalypse as he steps into another huge franchise - he will be back on the big screen this week in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Isaac, who has already won acclaim this year for his performances in Ex Machina and A Most Violent Year, is the big new addition to the cast list but Kodi Smit-McPhee, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, and Alexandra Shipp are some of the other new names to watch out for as they take on the roles of Nightcrawler, Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Storm.

Of course, there are plenty of familiar faces on board as James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, and Evan Peters are back as Charles Xavier, Magneto, Beast, Mystique, and Quicksilver.

As if that wasn't exciting enough, X-Men: Apocalypse also marks the return of Bryan Singer to the director's chair in what is his first feature film since the critical and commercial success of X-Men: Days of Future Past last year.

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel's X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign.

As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

X-Men: Apocalypse is one of the 2016 movies that I am looking forward to the most and it could be the biggest and the most successful film in the franchise to date.

X-Men: Apocalypse is released May 2016.
