Avengers: Age of Ultron Takes $187 Million At U.S. Box Office

Avengers: Age of Ultron has become the second highest opening movie of all time in the U.S. as it stormed to the number one spot.

Age of Ultron opened in America a week after the UK and took over $187 million in its opening weekend. It fell just short of the $200 million predicted but cruised to the top spot.

Age of Ultron is now second only to Avengers Assemble when it comes to highest grossing opening movies. So far, the highly anticipated film has taken over $630 million at the global box office and looks well on its way to becoming the second film to gross $1 billion.

Blake Lively has been enjoying success with her return to the big screen in The Age of Adaline, and this was one of the movies that was on the up this week. The movie jumped up a single place from three to two but it was a long way behind Avengers.

Fast & Furious 7 released its strangle hold of the top of the U.S. box office this week as it slipped two places to three. The movie has now become the fourth highest grossing movie of all time behind Avatar, Titanic, and Avengers Assemble having taken over $1.4 billion.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 was down two places this week from two to four, while Home slipped a single spot to round off the top five.

Cinderella was one of the biggest climbers this week as it powered back into the top ten. The Kenneth Branagh film and former #1 jumped from last week's number twelve to this week's number six.

Ex Machina was down one at seven, while Unfriended was down three at eight. The movie was down from last week's number five and was the biggest faller on the chart at the end of the weekend.

The Longest Ride was also down at nine - a two place fall - while there was no move for Woman In Gold at ten.
