Avengers: Age of Ultron Storms To Top Of UK Box Office

Avengers: Age of Ultron has grossed just over £18 million at the UK box office over the weekend to end the reign of Fast & Furious 7 as it stormed to the #1 spot.

Age of Ultron notched up the highest ever April opening with their £18 million - not to mention surpassing the £15.7 million grossed by Avengers Assemble in its opening weekend in the UK back in 2012.

The movie has already taken over $201 million worldwide and will open in the U.S. on Friday. It is predicted that it will become the second film to hit $1 billion this year - the first being Fast & Furious 7.

Age of Ultron sees Joss Whedon back in the director's chair while Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Jeremy Renner are back as Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Hulk, and Hawkeye.

If it goes on to surpass the $1.5 billion that was grossed by avengers Assemble at the global box office remains to be seen.

Fast & Furious 7 fell just a single place this week as it slipped to the number two spot. Cinderella and Home were also down one at three and four.

Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci was the second and final new entry inside the top ten this week as it opened at number five.

Woman In Gold fell out of the top five this week as it slipped one place to number six. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water was also down one at seven.

Child 44 was this week's biggest faller as the Tom Hardy movie fell four places from four to this week's number eight. Comedy Get Hard fell out of the top ten two weeks ago but has climbed back up to number nine - it is the only film that is on the rise this week.

The Duff fell a further two places this week to round off the top ten.
