Johansson is set to take on the role of Black Widow for the fourth time and the first time since we saw her in Captain America: The Winter Solider last year. However, the actress says we are going to learn even more about her this time around.

Speaking to W Magazine, the actress said: "People were surprised that I wanted to play a comic book heroine. But I loved Iron Man, and I met with Marvel to see what was possible. I had done my research, and the Black Widow character resonated with me.

"She is dark and has faced death so many times that she has a deep perspective on the value of life. In the sequel, you learn more about the sadness in her past."

It has been teased that we are going to see Black Widow play a much bigger role in the Avengers movie this time around - sadly, she will not be getting her own solo movie any time soon.

Avengers: Age of Ultron will see Johansson reunite with Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Jeremy Renner, while Joss Whedon is back in the director's chair.

It was also announced earlier this year that Johansson has joined the cast of Captain America: Civil War, which will be the third solo Captain America film.

Johansson teamed up with Evans for The Winter Soldier last year, which went on to gross in excess of $714 million worldwide - the fourth highest grossing Marvel film of all time.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is released 23rd April.
