Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to be one of the biggest films of the year and the movie will see Affleck take on the role of Bruce Wayne for the very first time.

While Batman is set to go head to head with Superman, a man that he doesn't trust, Affleck says that his character is inspired by the presence of Wonder Woman.

Speaking to EW, the actor said: "It inspires in him the idea that well, if there's one of these kinds of people out there, then maybe there are in fact more. If there are more, then maybe that's hopeful and also terrifying to him, because then they could make humans even more powerless - or they could serve on our side.

"You've got to remember that Batman is the world's greatest detective, and if he suspects that there may be more, and if he suspects in particular that Diana may be somebody special, he gets inspired."

Dawn of Justice will be the first time that we have seen Batman on the big screen since The Dark Knight Rises and I cannot wait to see Affleck's interpretation of the caped crusader.

Affleck is not the only new face on the cast list as the movie will see Gal Gadot take on the role of Wonder Woman for the first time - they both have solo movies in the pipeline.

And Affleck has nothing but praise for Gadot's performance in the film. He continued: "She's particularly beguiling and inspiring. Gal as an actress, I think is spectacular. It's an incredibly hard part to pull it off, and she pulls it off with ease and grace, and it's also just really fun to watch.

"I think it's exciting to him that she's out there and, ultimately, without giving too much away, he realizes that it's not only exciting, but also necessary that he finds more of them if they are, in fact, out there."

Henry Cavill, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, and Amy Adams complete the line-up while Zack Snyder is back in the director's chair.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is the first time that we have seen Affleck on the big screen since Gone Girl and we are also going to be seeing him in The Accountant and Suicide Squad later this year.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is released 25th March.
