Ben Affleck says Daredevil was made at a time before people realised superhero movies could be made well.

Affleck took on the title role in the 2003, which was both a critical and commercial flop when it hit the big screen. And Affleck is the first to admit that Daredevil is a movie that just didn't work.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he said: "Daredevil didn't work, at all. If I wanted to go viral I would be less polite. That was before people realized you could make these movies and make them well. There was a cynical sense of 'Put a red leather outfit on a guy, have him run around, hunt some bad guys, and cash the check.'"

Since then, the superhero movie has become one of the biggest genres at the box office with Marvel and Warner Bros producing some terrific films in recent year.

While Daredevil is not one of the finest moments in Affleck's career, it has not stopped him from returning to the superhero genre. Next year we are going to see Affleck take over the role of Batman for the first time in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Dawn of Justice is the sequel to Man of Steel and will see Henry Cavill return to the role of Clark Kent, while Zack Snyder is in the director's chair. And Affleck says this second superhero outing will be better as well as talking a little bit about the character of Bruce Wayne.

He continued: "They really learned how to make this stuff work. Good is the new bad. "He's at the end of his run and maybe the end of his life. There's this sort of world-weariness to it.

"Batman is basically the American version of Hamlet. We accept that he's played by actors with different interpretations."

The movie will also see Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, and Jason Momoa introduced as Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor, and Aquaman, while Diane Lane, Amy Adams, and Laurence Fishburne are back as Martha Kent, Lois Lane, and Perry White.

We are also going to be seeing Affleck make an appearance in Suicide Squad next summer and the Justice League movies are also on the horizon. It looks like this is going to be a superhero role that Affleck is not going to regret.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is released 25th March 2016.
