Affleck is to take up his place in the DC Universe next year when he takes on the role of Batman for the first time in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Affleck will also be making an appearance in Suicide Squad, which is out next summer, and filming is already under way on the solo Wonder Woman film. All this will lead to the first Justice League movie.

Speaking to Variety, Affleck says it is going to be a big year for DC movies in 2016: "You'll see next year [Warner Bros. Pictures] are going to have a great year.

"They are now developing... probably the single greatest, under-exploited IP asset in the entertainment business: The DC comic world. And now they have started to exploit that, and you are going to see that blossom. And, when it does, it's going to be massive."

Dawn of Justice sees Affleck team up with director Zack Snyder for the first time. Henry Cavill will reprise the role of Superman and we will be introduced to Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa as Wonder Woman and Aquaman for the first time.

2016 is going to be a busy year for Affleck as we will also be seeing him in The Accountant. He is currently filming new movie Live by Night.

Live By Night is the latest Dennis Lehane novel to be adapted for the big screen and sees Affleck on directing and writing duties as well as leading an all-star cast; Zoe Saldana, Sienna Miller, Elle Fanning, Brendan Gleeson, and Chris Cooper are also on board.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is released 25th March 2016.
