Ben Kingsley

Ben Kingsley says that he was allowed to go a ‘bit bonkers’ with the role of The Mandarin in Iron Man 3.

The Oscar winner is one of the new faces on the cast list of the third instalment of the Iron Man franchise and is set to be one of the villains of the film.

And Kingsley hints that The Mandarin is a character where you never quite know what he is going to do next.

Speaking to Empire the actor said: “He’s a pastiche of anti-American iconography. It’s there to confuse - you don’t know what is coming next.

“Shane (Black) allowed me to push the boundaries of the role so that I’m allowed to go a bit bonkers.”

The Mandarin is set to wreck havoc on Tony Stark’s personal life as he faces his biggest challenge to date.

Robert Downey Jr is back in the title role while Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall and James Badge Dale are the other new faces to watch out for.

As for Kingsley this is just one of the movies that we will be seeing him in this year as A Birder’s Guide To Everything, Ender’s Games and The Physician are all set for release.

The actor is currently lending his voice to latest project The Boxtrolls.

Iron Man 3 is released 26th April.
