Speculation continues to swirl as to whether Spectre will be the last time that we will see Daniel Craig take on the role of 007 and British actor Damien Lewis is the favourite to take over when Craig finally walks away from the role.

However, just about every other British actor's name is in the mix for the iconic role, but Cumberbatch says, unless the franchise goes in a different direction, the role of Bond will not go to him.

Speaking to The Guardian, the actor said: "I don't think they'd consider me for that, to be honest," he answered. "I can wear a suit, and I can fight! I can raise my eyebrow, but that's not what it takes to play Bond.

"They might want to go in very different directions, who knows? It would be fun though!"

And while the role of Bond may not be on the cards for Cumberbatch, he is set to return to the big screen in November with his new film Black Mass - which screened at the BFI London Film Festival over the weekend.

The movie sees the actor tackle the gangster genre for the first time as he teams up with Johnny Depp to tell the story of Boston gangster Whitey Bulger. Cumberbatch is set to take on the role of Whitey's brother Billy, who went into politics instead of a life of crime.

Black Mass is already winning over critics and audiences and is being tipped as a potential Oscar contender... could we see Cumberbatch in the Best Supporting Actor Oscar race just a year after he picked up his first nomination for his central role in The Imitation Game? I guess we are going to have to wait and see.

Cumberbatch is also set step into the Marvel world for the first time as cameras are set to start rolling on Doctor Strange, which will be released this time next year. Cumberbatch is set to take on the title role in what will be the second of two Marvel films to be released next year.

As for Bond, Spectre will be released at the end of the month and Craig is yet to announce whether or not he will do a fifth film. The likes of Idris Elba and Tom Hardy have expressed and interest in taking over the role.
