Tim Burton is set to return to the director’s chair with new film Big Eyes, and the first poster for the film has been unveiled.

Big Eyes is the first film for Burton since Frankenweenie back in 2012, and is a biopic drama about the painter Margaret Keane.

Oscar nominee Amy Adams is set to take on the central role of Keane in the film, as she teams up with director Burton for the very first time. Burton has also enlisted the talents of double Oscar winner Christoph Waltz to play Keane’s husband Walter Keane.

Burton has brought together a great cast for the film, as Adams and Waltz are joined by Krysten Ritter, Jason Schwartzman, Danny Huston, and Terence Stamp.

Big Eyes is based on the true story of Walter Keane (Waltz), who was one of the most successful painters 1950s and early 1960s.

The artist earned staggering notoriety by revolutionizing the commercialization and accessibility of popular art with his enigmatic paintings of waifs with big eyes.

The truth would eventually be discovered though: Keane’s were actually not created by him at all, but by his wife, Margaret (Adams). The Keanes, it seemed, had been living a lie that had grown to gigantic proportions.

Big Eyes centres on Margaret’s awakening as an artist, the phenomenal success of her paintings, and her tumultuous relationship with her husband, who was catapulted to international fame while taking credit for her work.

We don’t really see Burton tackle many biopic projects, but I am looking forward to see him bringing his style of filmmaking to this true story.

Big Eyes is released 26th December.
