Bob Hoskins has passed away at the age of seventy-one.

Hoskins retired from acting two year ago, after being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, but passed away after contracting pneumonia.

His agent revealed that the actor had passed away in hospital on Tuesday.

Hoskins is survived by his wife Lind and four children, Alex, Sarah, Rosa, and Jack. In a statement, they said: "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Bob.

"Bob died peacefully at hospital last night surrounded by family, following a bout of pneumonia.

"We ask that you respect our privacy during this time and thank you for your messages of love and support."

Hoskins enjoyed an acting career that spanned over forty-nine: he made his big screen debut in 1972.

He went on to star in movies such as Mona Lisa, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and The Long Good Friday.

More recently, we have seen Hoskins appear in the likes of Mrs Henderson Presents, A Christmas Carol, and Made in Dagenham.

His final big screen appearance came in summer 2012, when he starred alongside Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth in Snow White and the Huntsman.
