Bruce Willis has thrown his support behind a sixth Die Hard film that will be a prequel to all of the other movies.

The role of John McClaane is the most iconic role of Willis' career and one he has played since the first Die Hard film back in 1989.

While news of a prequel movie has not been met with much support from the fans, Willis reveals that he is behind the plan for the sixth film.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the actor said: "It's a very good idea, a really tricky idea, and I'm very happy about it. It's a really cool idea, because it's the origin story. It's gonna happen at the beginning of this. We're going to bounce back and forth."

Sadly, Willis can not play the role of McClane forever and this sixth film is another attempt for the franchise to switch the focus in a different direction and with a younger actor.

They did try this with previous film A Good Day To Die Hard in 2013, - where they introduced John's son Jack - but the movie was not met well by the critics or by long-standing fans of the action franchise.

While Willis is going to be involved in the new film, there is currently no word on the actor who will take on the role of the younger version of McClane. However, Len Wiseman has been linked with the director's chair.

As for Willis, he will be back on the big screen with Rock the Kasbah, which sees him star alongside Bill Murray. He has also completed work on Precious Cargo and Going Under.

There is currently no word on when we may see a sixth Die Hard film hit the big screen - it certainly won't be before the beginning of 2017.
