Bryan Singer will direct X-Men: Apocalypse it has been confirmed.

Ever since the success of X-Men: Days of Future Past, Singer has been working on the new film with writers Michael Dougherty, Dan Harris, and Simon Kinberg.

However, a director for the film has not been confirmed. But now Deadline have revealed that Singer is on board to helm the already highly anticipated project.

James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence will all be returning to the roles of Professor X, Magneto, and Mystique.

It looks like Hugh Jackman could also be on board, and the movie will be set in the eighties.

Singer returned to the X-Men franchise for the first time since X2 with Days of Future Past, which is one of this year's biggest movies.

Days of Future Past brought together stars of the original and new franchises and went on to gross in excess of $754 million at the global box office.

It is currently the third highest grossing movie of 2014 so far.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set to hit the big screen 19th May 2016.
