Cate Blanchett was "desperate" to play a dwarf in 'The Hobbit' films.

Cate Blanchett has bemoaned the fact she never got to play a dwarf in 'The Hobbit'.

The 45-year-old actress - who plays Lady Galadriel in 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit' trilogies - has expressed her disappointment at not being given the opportunity to dress up as one of the hairy mythical creatures.

According to ET Canada, she said: "I was so desperate to play a dwarf. The facial hair. You go into the wig room. Oh my god. The beard."

Meanwhile, Orlando Bloom - who stars as elf Legolas in the film adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien's novels - was more sentimental about the iconic franchise coming to an end.

Speaking at Comic-Con the 37-year-old actor - who appears in all three LOTR films and two of three Hobbit films - explained: "It's a truly passionate event, and I feel very fortunate that I'm getting to see it on the last installment of a journey that's been so special for me."
