Cate Blanchett says she initially felt she had 'bitten off more than I could chew' with Blue Jasmine.

Blanchett teamed up with director Woody Allen for the first time with this project, and is a performance that has been met with critical acclaim.

And while Blanchett is favourite to scoop the Best Actress Oscar, she was initially worried about taking on the role.

Speaking to Vogue.co.uk the actress said: "I felt when making the film that I'd bitten off more than I could chew.

"It was such a complex, absurd, intense role - it was like going into battle every day."

Blanchett need not have worried as the movie has been receiving praise left, right and centre.

Blanchett cranked up her Oscar chances at the weekend by winning the Best Actress - Dram Golden Globe.

She saw off the challenge from Judi Dench, Sandra Bullock, Kate Winslet and Emma Thompson.

2014 is going to be a busy year for Blanchett as we are set to see her in The Monuments Men, How To Train Your Dragon 2, Knights of Cups and The Hobbit: There And Back Again.

The Oscar nominations will be announced later this week and Blanchett is the red hot favourite to be in the mix.
