Catherine Hardwicke is set to return to the director's chair to helm new film Miss You Already.

Hardwicke looks set to team up with Rachel Weisz and Toni Collette - who are already attached to the project.

Miss You Already has been penned by Morwenna Banks and is based on personal experience.

It follows the story of two friends whose relationship goes through a tough time when one falls pregnant and the other falls sick.

Hardwicke admits that she was drawn to the script when she read it for the first time.

Speaking to Deadline, the director said: "When I met Morwenna Banks and read her script, I really felt her passion for this story -- this is something she lived through.

"She managed to take real life and turn it into a powerful, laugh-and-cry-out-loud screenplay."

Hardwicke has been behind films such as Thirteen, Lord of Dogtown and Twilight during her directing career, and this would be her first feature film since Plush.

Meanwhile, Christopher Simon and Felix Vossen are producing the film which begins shooting in September.
