'Magic Mike 2' will be a "road trip movie".

Star and producer Channing Tatum - whose own stripper past formed the basis for 2012's breakout hit 'Magic Mike' - has revealed the film's follow-up will take place on the open road and will be more "crazy and fun" than the original.

He said: "It will be a road trip movie, and it will essentially be the movie that everyone thought the first one was going to be - crazy and fun and less slice-of-life and less drama. The first one, we had to make not so cheesy and campy; this one we are going to swing for the fences."

However, the sequel - which is currently in development - has already hit a roadblock as 'Magic Mike' director Steven Soderbergh is insistent on taking a break from filmmaking following the release of his Liberace biopic 'Behind the Candelabra' earlier this month.

Tatum told The Hollywood Reporter: "We're developing 'Magic Mike 2', but he really wants to be done directing movies. We'll see. I wish people would lobby him to finish what he started: 'Come on, man! Stop being stubborn and come back.' I've said that to him, but he is a very fixed-in-his-ways guy, and if he says it, it is hard to change."

The actor has revealed he and producing partner Reid Carolin are considering directing the film themselves and says Soderbergh is eager for the star to take the director's chair, even offering to help Tatum as a cameraman and director of photography on the production.

However, Tatum worries that he wouldn't be able to live up to the Oscar-winning director's expectations and would second-guess himself with Soderbergh on set.

He explained: "Because he is such an opinionated and talented man, if he wants to do a five-minute tracking shot through a forest, you don't want to doubt him. It would be like having sex with your girlfriend while her porn star ex-boyfriend is in the room watching you."
