Channing Tatum

Channing Tatum has revealed that a deal to play Gambit has not quite been reached.

Earlier this month, it looked like X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner had got the actor she wanted for the role... however, a deal isn't quite in place.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor said: "I hope to be joining - everything's not done yet.

"I've obviously been in talks, and we're on the one yard line. I'm always afraid of being like, 'Yes, it's totally happening' and then it doesn't happen... I'm dying to do it."

Tatum openly talked about his desire to play the role of Gambit when Donner admitted that she would love to see the 21 Jump Street actor take on that character.

We could well be seeing Tatum introduced as Gambit in X-Men: Apocalypse, and a solo movie may be in the pipeline.

Gambit was briefly introduced in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, played by Taylor Kitsch.

As for Tatum, he will be back on the big screen at the beginning of next month as he reunites with Jonah Hill for 22 Jump Street.

Work on the script for X-Men: Apocalypse is already under way, and the movie is set for a 2016 release.
