Chiwetel Ejiofor says that the chance of working with filmmaker John Hillcoat was one of the big reasons he wanted to get involved with Triple 9.

Ejiofor is part of the ensemble cast of the crime drama and teams up with the Lawless filmmaker for the first time. The Oscar-nominated actor admits that coming aboard Triple 9 was a 'very easy decision.'

Speaking at the UK press conference, the actor said: "Well, it was a number of things. First of all, just having John involved. We talked about this a long time ago, several years ago, and the concept and the idea of it has always been so intriguing.

"But I've always been such a huge fan of John's films - it's kind of awkward that he's sitting right here as I say that. He's such a brilliant visual filmmaker so I was thrilled to try and tell this story, and it's a great character and pulling that together with the terrific casting it was a very easy decision."

The movie follows a gang of criminals and corrupt cops that are planning to kill a copy in order to pull off a huge heist. Ejiofor is just one of the big names on the cast list as Kate Winslet, Gal Gadot, Aaron Paul, Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, and Anthony Mackie are all also on board.

Triple 9 is set to hit the big screen next week and is the first feature film for Hillcoat since Lawless back in 2012. He has also brought us movies such as The Road and The Proposition during his career.

We haven't seen Ejiofor on the big screen since the success of The Martian last autumn but he is also set to star in Secret in Their Eyes later this year.

The actor is currently filming Doctor Strange, which will be released in the autumn. Ejiofor will take on the role of Baron Mordo in the Marvel film, alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Tilda Swinton.

Triple 9 is released 19th February.
