Chloe Grace Moretz says she is still 'fighting hard' to land the roles that she wants.

Moretz returned to the big screen over the weekend with the adaptation of novel If I Stay: a movie that is currently at #3 in the U.S. top ten.

And while Moretz is one of the most recognisable young stars, she admits that it is still a struggle to break away from being boxed into certain roles.

Speaking to OK! magazine, the actress said: "I'm still fighting hard for every role I get.

"I'm still fighting the boundary of how old or young I can be, or how they want me to be something I'm not.

"You are always having this struggle, especially as a female actor against the higher powers trying to keep you in a spot which makes them feel comfortable. That's a major thing I'm battling right now."

Moretz has mixed and matched her roles since making her breaking through as Hit Girl in Kick Ass.

And she is going to continue to do that with Clouds of Sils Maria, The Equalizer and Dark Places are all on the horizon.

The Equalizer will see her team up with Denzel Washington & director Antoine Fuqua, while Dark Places is an adaptation of the Gillian Flynn novel of the same name.

She has also landed the central role of Cassie Sullivan, as Rick Yancey's novel The Fifth Wave is to be adapted for the big screen.

The Equalizer is released 26th September.
