According to Deadline, the 35-year-old actor - most famous for playing Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - is up for the role of Tom Jackman in the movie which is being made by Lionsgate and is based on the 2007 BBC TV series which starred James Nesbitt as the character.

In the show, Jackman is a modern descendent of Dr. Jekyll who begins to develop a split personality and steadily transforms into a version of Mr. Hyde.

The fictional scientist Dr. Jekyll was created by writer Robert Louis Stevenson in his 19th century novella 'Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' and in the story he invents a serum that turns him into a depraved and hideous man known as Mr. Hyde.

Lionsgate's 'Jekyll' is being produced by Ellen DeGeneres and Jeff Kleeman through their A Very Good Production company.

Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry are responsible for penning the script basing it on the six episodes written by 'Doctor Who' showrunner and 'Sherlock' co-creator Steven Moffat.

A director is yet to be attached to the film.

Stevenson's horror tale is proving popular at the moment as Russell Crowe is also set to play the dual personality of Jekyll and Hyde in Universal's reboot of 'The Mummy', in which he will appear opposite Tom Cruise.
