Thor: Ragnarok will be the third standalone film for the title character and it will be the first time we have seen Hemsworth take on this role since the success of Avengers: Age of Ultron earlier this year.

On the promotional trail for new film In The Heart of the Sea, Hemsworth talked about the upcoming Marvel film.

Speaking to CB, the actor said: "I think it needs to be injected with that sort of smart wit and unexpected kind of humour, kind of what James Gunn came in and did with Guardians [Of The Galaxy]. It was like off centre and unpredictable and I think we can definitely use a dose of that, you know."

The movie will see Hemsworth reunite with Tom Hiddleston, who will reprise the role of Loki. Mark Ruffalo will be back as Hulk in his first appearance outside the Avengers movies.

Taika Waititi is in the director's chair as he helms a Marvel film for the first time. We haven't seen Waititi in the director's chair since What We Do in the Shadows but he is currently filming Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

Hemsworth is set to return to the big screen on Boxing Day with new movie In The Heart of the Sea, which sees him reunite with filmmaker Ron Howard.

He has also completed work on Ghostbusters and The Huntsman: Winter's War, which will see him reprise the title role.

Thor: Ragnarok is released 27th October 2017.
