Wonder Woman is already one of the most anticipated films on the Warner Bros slate and will be the first time that we have seen Gal Gadot lead a solo movie for this iconic character.

According to Variety, Pine is currently in negotiations to play Steve Trevor - the love interest of Wonder Woman - in the film.

Trevor, is an intelligence officer in the US Army during World War II whose plane crashed on Paradise Island, the homeland of Wonder Woman.

Scott Eastwood was originally linked to the project but has since landed a role in Suicide Squad, another Warner Bros movie that is based on a DC Comic.

Pine is no stranger to the big budget blockbuster with two Star Trek movies already under his belt.

Wonder Woman is scheduled to hit the big screen in 2017 and will see Patty Jenkins return to the director's chair for what will be he first feature film since the success of Monster back in 2003.

Jenkins is the second director to be attached to the project - replacing Michelle MacLaren, who left earlier this year. Jason Fuchs is also on board having penned the screenplay.

We will be introduced to Gadot as Wonder Woman for the first time next year as she makes an appearance in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice - the sequel to Man of Steel.

Gadot is one of the new faces on the cast list alongside Ben Affleck, Jesse Eisenberg and Jason Momoa, who will star as Batman, Lex Luthor, and Aquaman. Henry Cavill will reprise the role of Superman, while Zack Snyder is back in the director's chair.

As for Pine, he enjoyed critical success at Sundance Film Festival at the beginning of the year with Z for Zachariah as well as box office success with Into The Woods.

He has also completed work on Comancheria and The Finest Hours. He is also set to reprise the role of Captain Kirk in a third Star Trek movie.

Wonder Woman is released 23rd June 2017 in the US - no UK release date has yet been announced.
