Chronicle has toppled War Horse from the top of the UK box office after a three week reign.

The movie marks the directorial feature debut for Josh Trank and follows three high school friends who gain superpowers after making an incredible discovery.

Chronicle took £2.1 million in it's opening weekend to hold off another new movie Journey 2: The Mysterious Island for the top spot.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, follow up to Journey To The Centre of the Earth, took £1.2 million and had to settle for second.

The Descendants dropped just a single place to three this week while War Horse was down three at number four.

Jack and Jill, the latest movie from Adam Sandler, was a new entry at five while Man In A Ledge was new in at six.

The Grey, A Monster In Paris and The Artist were the biggest fallers this week as they all dropped four places to seven, eight and nine.
