Colin Farrell

Colin Farrell says he was drawn to A New York Winter's Tale because of the romance and sentiment that was in the script.

Farrell will be back on the big screen next week for the adaptation of the Mark Helprin novel.

The movie will be the directorial debut of Akiva Goldsman, who has also penned the screenplay.

Speaking to the Press Association, the actor said: "I hadn't done it before and I just loved the script - it was so unabashedly romantic and sentimental and I hadn't read anything ever that wore its heart on its sleeve with such pride as this film did," he said.

"I just loved this film, the characters and the time period it was set in."

A terrific cast has been assembled for the film, as Jessica Brown Findlay, Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly. William Hurt and Matt Bomer are all also on board.

A New York Winter's Tale is the first film for Farrell since the success of Saving Mr Banks, but he has also completed work on Solace and Miss Julie.

A New York Winter's Tale is released 21st February.
