Black Widow

David Hayter has revealed that he wrote a screenplay for a solo Black Widow movie ten years ago.

However, this was a project that was shelved after a series of female led action movies did not succeed at the box office. Hayter has since gone on to write scripts for X-Men and Watchmen.

Hayter has been linked with writing and directing duties on a possible Black Widow movie, but so far, Hayter admits that he is not involved.

Speaking to Latino Review, Hayter said: "For Black Widow, I wrote [a script] ten years ago and I was attached to direct it then.

"Then a few female action movies came out and they didn't do very well. And the movie got shelved.

"It's on IMDB and I'm going to talk to Marvel about possibly re-igniting that project. It really depends on Marvel on what they want to do with that character.

"So that's the status of that right now. As far as I know, it's not a project that's happening yet. But I have written a script for it."

The possibility of a Black Widow solo film is something that has been hinted at by Marvel this year, but nothing official has yet been announced.

Scarlett Johansson returned to the role earlier this year with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and she will be back with Avengers: Age of Ultron.
