David Tennant says getting to work with Billy Connolly was a big drawn of What We Did on Our Holiday.

What We Did on Our Holiday sees Tennant return to the big screen for his first comedy movie since Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger!

And while Tennant liked the family aspect of the script, he admits that Connolly being on board was also a big factor.

Speaking to Total Film, the actor said: "I think the way this film portrays raising children and just family life in general, is quite believable.

"And, of course, there was also the chance to work with Billy. Growing up in Scotland he loomed large. I grew up with his live shows and learned a few naughty words from him."

What We Did on Our Holiday sees Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin in the director's chair, while Rosamund Pike, Celia Imrie and Ben Miller join Tennant and Connolly on the cast list.

Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger! was the last time that we saw Tennant on the big screen, although he did lend his voice to Postman Pat: The Movie earlier this year.

He is returning to television with Broadchurch series 2, where he will reprise the role of DI Alec Hardy.

What We Did on Our Holiday is released 26th September.
