The 50-year-old actor is set to star in the next installment of the sci-fi saga and though Disney and Lucasfilm do everything they can to keep plot details top secret, an insider has described Benicio's character as a "black leather"-clad ship captain who is either called "D.J" or known as the acronym on set.

An insider told MakingStarWars.Net: "He is either named D.J. or it is his code name used by the production. He wears all black. He has a trench coat on with a Han Solo-style belt at his waist to hold his blaster. His hair is short. He also has a strange cap that doesn't have a bill to it. He looks slimy and dirty but the bill-less cap makes him look sort of like a throwback to a different era.

"His trench coat reminds me of Anakin's 'Revenge of the Sith' costume in that its lapels evoke a tabard look and its black leather."

MakingStarWars.Net - a site which has been responsible for breaking several major 'Star Wars' stories on the new trilogy and the anthology films - also claimed the character's ship is grand and resembles the Star Trek Enterprise from J.J. Abrams' 'Star Trek Beyond'.

The site reported: "His ship is really fancy. The interior looks like something you would see from Canto Bight. It looks like if someone took the J.J. Abrams' Star Trek films and designed the interior of the Falcon for a new Trek film.

"The cockpit has a very nice singular red seat for him to pilot from. In the back of the ship, it has a communal section like the Falcon where a crew could sit and socialize. But instead of dingy white seats and a chess board it has a very nice bright curved blue booth with a table (no word on a chess board) and it looks more like a nice hotel than something Han Solo would live in."

The latest news has quashed rumours that Benicio would be playing Grand Admiral Thrawn in the Rian Johnson directed movie, currently shooting in Croatia.

And on Tuesday (05.04.17) it was revealed that a new casino planet will be introduced to the franchise called Canto Bight, after it was reported that Tatooine, Endor and Mustafar will be seen again before the new trilogy comes to an end.

All three planets have massive significance in the 'Star Wars' universe as Tatooine is where we first met Luke Skywalker 'Episode IV - A New Hope' and Endor is the planet where the Rebel Alliance - led by Han Solo and Princess Leia - team up with the Ewok alien race to battle the Empire's stormtroopers so that the second Death Star can be destroyed in 'Episode VI - Return of the Jedi'.

Mustafar is the volcanic planet where Obi-Wan Kenobi defeated Anakin Skywalker leaving him burnt and limbless and in need of life support system and robotic limbs, completing his transformation to become Darth Vader in 'Episode III - Revenge of the Sith'. It is also the location of Lord Vader's castle, as seen in 'Rogue One'.

The first trailer for 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' is expected to be released on April 14 during the 'Star Wars Celebration' in Orlando, Florida.
