Karen Gillan says her 'Doctor Who' experience helped her when filming 'Guardians of the Galaxy'.
Karen Gillan's says her experience on 'Doctor Who' made filming 'Guardians of the Galaxy' much easier.Gillan - who appeared on the popular BBC sci-fi show between 2010 and 2012 - was cast in the role of Nebula in the latest Marvel flick and said it was easy to make the transition.
She told the Radio Times magazine: "There are actually a lot of similarities because it's sci-fi. There's a lot of green screen and reacting to things that aren't there, so I feel like I was trained up for it.
"But the main difference is that everything is just bigger in scale. More set, more people... just a bigger budget."
The 26-year-old actress also revealed that 'Doctor Who' helped her to secure the lead role in 'Oculus', a physiological horror film directed by Mike Flanagan.
She said: "[Director Mike Flanagan] is a really big 'Doctor Who' fan and he Skyped with me when I was in my bedroom in Scotland in my parents' house.
"He was drinking out of a TARDIS mug - but he didn't realise he was drinking out of a TARDIS mug - and I was like, 'I've totally got this role!'"
'Guardians of the Galaxy' opens in UK cinemas on August 1.
