Dwayne Johnson has taken to Twitter to confirm that he will back taking on the role of Black Adam in a big screen adaptation of Shazam.

Shazam is just on of the DC comic characters coming to the big screen, and Johnson has been teasing fans that he was involved in a comic book project.

Now the actor has taken to his Twitter account to announce that he will be playing Black Adam: Shazam's arch-enemy.

He wrote: "Kneel at his feet or get crushed by his boot. My honor to become.. #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero #DCComics".

Johnson is the first name to officially board the project, with the central character of Shazam still to be cast.

It is set to be an exciting few years for Warner Bros and DC Comics as there are a range of untitled movies on the horizon.

The first of those films will be Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, which will be hitting the big screen in early 2016.

As for Johnson, he has finished worked on Fast & Furious 7 - where he will reprise the role of Hobbs - and San Andreas.
