Eddie Murphy is set to reprise the role of Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop 4.

It was back in 1994 when Beverly Hills Cop III hit the big screen, but director Brett Ratner will bring the popular character back to the big screen.

A statement from Paramount revealed that the movie will follow Foley, who has been living a cushy life as a Beverly Hills detective, head back to the mean streets of Detroit during the coldest winter on record to navigate the new rules and old enemies in America's toughest city.

Murphy will reunite with original producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who just started a long-term deal with Paramount Pictures.

Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec are also aboard the project as they are set to pen the screenplay.

The original film was released in December 1984 and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture - Comedy/Musical, and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Writing.

'Beverly Hills Cop' was also a commercial success and earned $234 million at the North American domestic box office, making it the biggest hit that year.

The newest instalment of the action comedy is tipped for a March 25, 2016 release.
