Emma Watson is set to star in new political thriller Colonia.

Colonia is based on the Chilean coup of 1973, and The Hollywood Reporter have revealed that Watson is set to team up with Daniel Bruhl for the movie.

This will be the first time that Watson and Bruhl have worked together, while Florian Gallenberger will be in the director's chair.

Gallenberger has teamed up with Torsten Wenzel to pen the screenplay, as he returns to the director's chair for the first time since City of War: The Story of John Rabe back in 2009.

Watson and Bruhl are set to play a couple, Lena and Daniel, who get caught up in the middle of the coup. When Daniel is kidnapped by the secret police, Lena sets off to find him.

We haven't seen Watson on the big screen since the success of Noah at the beginning of the year.

However, she has already completed work on Regression, which saw her work with Alejandro Amenábar.

Regression will not hit the big screen until August next year, as Ethan Hawke and David Thewlis are also on board. Colonia is expected to hit the big screen next year.
