Bathsheba Everdene is one of literature's greatest heroines and we are going to see her on the big screen this year in a new adaptation of Far From The Madding Crowd.

Far From The Madding Crowd

Thomas Vinterberg is the latest director to put his stamp on the much loved Thomas Hardy novel and we will see Carey Mulligan take on the central role in the film.

Mulligan is one of the most exciting actresses around and I really cannot wait to see her tackle this incredibly interesting and complex role.

This brand new featurette sees the actress and the cast talk about Bathsheba and how she is depicted in this new adaptation:

Far From The Madding Crowd is the first time that Mulligan has teamed up with director Vinterberg and is the first time that we have seen her on the big screen since Inside Llewyn Davis at the beginning of 2014.

However, it is not all about Mulligan as Michael Sheen, Matthias Schoenaerts, Tom Sturridge, and Juno Temple will take on the roles of William Boldwood, Gabriel Oak, Sergeant Troy, and Fanny Robin.

Far From The Madding Crowd is the story of independent, beautiful and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene (Mulligan), who attracts three very different suitors: Gabriel Oak (Schoenaerts), a sheep farmer, captivated by her fetching wilfulness; Frank Troy (Sturridge), a handsome and reckless Sergeant; and William Boldwood (Sheen), a prosperous and mature bachelor.

This timeless story of Bathsheba's choices and passions explores the nature of relationships and love - as well as the human ability to overcome hardships through resilience and perseverance.

There are a handful of exciting period dramas set to hit the big screen this year, but Far From The Madding Crowd is promising to be one that is not to be missed.

Far From The Madding Crowd is released 1st May.
