Felicity Jones says she saw a 'quiet strength' in her role as Nelly in The Invisible Woman.

Jones stars alongside Ralph Fiennes in the new period drama, which looks at the relationship between Nelly and Charles Dickens.

The actress was at the premiere for the film in London last night, where she spoke about what drew her to this role.

Talking exclusively to FemaleFirst on the red carpet she said: "I felt like there was a very quiet strength to her; when I am in a difficult situation I still think 'what would Nelly do in this situation?'

"In society she didn't have a lot of options and was rather constrained by the society of the time.

"She is someone who fought for her sense of self and her independence. That is a great thing to play for an actress."

The Invisible Woman is an adaptation of the book The Invisible Woman: The Story of Nelly Ternan and Charles Dickens by Claire Tomalin, and sees Fiennes also back in the director's chair.

The Invisible Woman kicks off a busy and exciting year for Jones, as we are also going to be seeing her in Theory of Everything and True Story.

She is also one of the new faces on the cast list for The Amazing Spider Man 2; a film that sees her tackle her first big budget blockbuster.

The Invisible Woman is released 21st February.
