Thor: Ragnarok is already one of the most anticipated Marvel films of the next year and film on the movie has finally got under way.

Chris Hemsworth as Thor

Chris Hemsworth as Thor

Thor: Ragnarok is the third solo film in the Thor series and will see Chris Hemsworth back in the title role. It will be the first time we have seen him as Thor since the success of Avengers: Age of Ultron last year.

Taika Waititi has taken over the director's chair and is at the helm of a Marvel film for the first time. He has brought us movies such as Eagle vs Shark and What We Do in the Shadows, but this is the biggest film of his career to date.

Marvel Studios co-president Louis D'Esposito and Ant-Man director Peyton Reed both took to Twitter to wish the filmmaker well as cameras on Thor: Ragnarok started rolling.

Waititi follows Kenneth Branagh and Alan Taylor into the director's chair for what is promising to be the biggest Thor movie yet.

It may be all change in the director's chair, but there are plenty of familiar faces on the cast list as Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, and Anthony Hopkins are set to reprise the roles of Loki, Heimdall, and Odin.

But there are some big new additions to the cast list as Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban, and Tessa Thompson will star as Hulk, Hela, Grandmaster, Skurge, and Valkyrie.

Thor: Ragnarok will be the first time that we have seen Bruce Banner appear outside of the Avengers franchise and I cannot wait for this character to come face to face with Loki once again.

Thor: Ragnarok will be the third of three Marvel films to be released next year; following Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming. The movie will also continue to build towards Avengers: Infinity War - we still don't know which characters will be appearing in the two-part Avengers film.

Thor: Ragnarok is released 27th October 2017.
