Star Trek Beyond is already one of the most anticipated films of summer 2016 and filming on the movie has just wrapped.

Star Trek Beyond is set to be the third movie in the rebooted Star Trek franchise and will see Justin Lin in the director's chair for the first time - taking over from J.J. Abrams.

Filming got underway on the project at the beginning of the summer and now the Pegg News Twitter page has announced that filming on the movie has wrapped.

As well as reprising the role as Scotty, Pegg has also penned the Star trek Beyond screenplay with Doug Jung. While Pegg is no stranger to writing with movies such as Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, and Paul under his belt, Star Trek Beyond is the biggest film he has ever penned the script for.

Pegg will not be the only familiar face on the cast list as Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, and John Chu are set to reprise the roles of Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Bones, Chekov, and Sulu.

Idris Elba is the big new addition to the cast list and is expected to play the film's villain - his role is being kept tightly under wraps for now... along with the plot.

It was back in 2009 when the rebooted Star Trek franchise hit the big screen for the first time with sequel Star Trek Into Darkness released in 2013.

Star Trek Beyond is the first time that Lin has taken over the director's chair of the franchise, but he is no stranger to the big budget blockbuster with the likes of Fast & Furious 5 and 6 already under his belt.

Star Trek Beyond is released 8th July
