Melissa McCarthy will be returning to the big screen this summer in what looks to be one of the funniest films of the year – The Happytime Murders. Set in the underbelly of Los Angeles where humans and puppets now coexist, the movie follows the story of two clashing detectives – one human and one puppet – who are forced to work together in a bid to work out who’s murdering the former cast of The Happytime Gang – a classic puppet show. This week, the brilliant first trailer and a new poster for the film has been released, both of which you can check out below:

Also starring Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale, and Elizabeth Banks, The Happytime Murders is directed by Brian Henson and set for release from STXfilms. Henson also serves as a producer alongside McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone, as well as Jeffrey Hayes and Jason Lust.

Todd Berger worked on the story with Dee Robertson, before putting together the film’s screenplay, in a passion project that was first announced to be in development at The Jim Henson Company since all the way back in 2008.

The Happytime Murders comes to cinemas across the UK some time this summer.
