Meryl Streep is set to return to the big screen in new film Florence Foster Jenkins and Pathe has announced that the movie has been given a 6th May UK release date.

Florence Foster Jenkins

Florence Foster Jenkins sees Streep take on the title role of the New York heiress as she teams up with filmmaker Stephen Frears for the very first time.

Frears is no stranger to telling real-life stories with the likes of Philomena and The Queen already under his belt. Florence Foster Jenkins is the first movie for the director since The Program last year - it is always good to see him back.

Streep is also used to playing real people on the big screen and this is her first film outing since she took on the role of Emmeline Pankhurst in Suffragette last autumn. I cannot wait to see what she delivers with her latest role.

A wonderful supporting cast has been assembled around the Oscar winner, as Hugh Grant, Simon Helberg, Rebecca Ferguson, and Nina Arianda are all on board.

The voice Florence (Streep) heard in her head was divine, but to the rest of the world, it was hilariously awful. At private recitals, her devoted husband and manager, St Clair Bayfield (Grant), managed to protect Florence from the truth.

But when Florence decided to give her first public concert at New York's Carnegie Hall, St Clair realised he had perhaps bitten off more than he could chew.

Florence Foster Jenkins is released 6th May.
