Maxine Peake, Paddy Considine, Tony Pitts, Stephen Graham and Alun Armstrong are amongst the all-star cast of upcoming comedy flick Funny Cow, with a slew of special appearances from the likes of John Bishop, Vic Reeves, Corinne Bailey Rae and Diane Morgan also lined up. This week, a brilliant new trailer offering a glimpse of what to expect from the movie has been revealed, which you can now check out below:

Written by Tony Pitts and with Adrian Shergold as director, Funny Cow will see Peake in the leading role as a comedian set to break through the glass ceiling of a male-dominated 1970s comedy circuit. With working men’s clubs across the North of England her domain, the ‘Funny Cow’ will have to work harder than ever before to prove she’s cut out for the industry.

In refusing to give up her dreams, she’ll face a slew of competition from bigots who just don’t think this industry is one that women should be allowed to jump into. Fortunately for this ‘Funny Cow’, she’s got the wit and charm to change minds and carve out a path for women of the future to follow.

Still to this day, women in the comedy industry seem to have to fight harder than men for recognition. Whether there’s a lack of females on the panels of comedy shows, or not enough women being added to the line-up of comedy galas and events, the funny ladies in comedy fight every time they get up on stage not only for themselves, but for the female comedians of the future.

Funny Cow comes to cinemas across the UK on April 20, 2018.
