Gary Oldman says he would love for the sequel to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes to be shot in London.

Oldman has joined the cast of the sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes - which has been released in UK cinemas today.

A third film is in the pipeline, and Oldman would love for it to be shot in the city that he grew up in.

Speaking to London Go, the actor said: "The apes could go to Trafalgar Square? Climbing up Nelson's Column? Like a mini version of 'King Kong'. Call it 'Apes Go Bananas In The Smoke'."

Oldman is not the only new faces on the cast list, as Jason Clarke and Keri Russell are also on board. It is all change in the director's chair as Matt Reeves has taken over from Rupert Wyatt.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has already topped the U.S. box office, grossing over $73 million over the weekend.

The movie has been winning over the critics and looks set to be one of the most successful films of the summer.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is out now.
