Gemma Arterton has revealed that the killings in new movie Byzantium were challenging because of all the technical aspects involved.

The British actress plays a vampire in the new movie as she teams up with director Neil Jordan for the first time.

And while these scenes were tough for the actress she says that there was a real sense of achievement when everything came together.

Speaking to the Press Association the actress said: "It's quite hard doing stuff like that technically, because there's a lot of rigs you have to set up with pumps and blood," she said.

"The timing has to be right, it's very messy and sometimes you're not quite in the flow with it because you have to reset and all of those things. But when you get it right, you feel like 'yes' (a sense of achievement)."

Byzantium sees Arterton team up with Saoirse Ronan for the first time as they play mother and daughter in the film; which is based on the play by Moira Buffini.

It has already been a busy year for the actress as we have seen her in Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters and Song For Marion.

But she will be back later this year with Runner, Runner while she is currently working on The Voices.

Byzantium is out now.
