Excitingly, filming on the live-action version of Ghost In The Shell has got under way in New Zealand and the first image from the film has been unveiled.

Ghost In The Shell

The film is shooting in Wellington in New Zealand at the moment and is already one of the most talked about films. Ghost In The Shell is based on much-loved Kodansha Comics manga series of the same name.

Scarlett Johansson takes on the central role of Kusanagi in the film and she features in this great first image.

The movie sees Johansson team up with filmmaker Rupert Sanders for the first time. This is also the first time that we have seen Sanders in the director's chair for the first time since the success of Snow White and the Huntsman back in 2012.

In fact, Ghost in the Shell will only be the second feature film of his directing career. I am a huge fan of the 1995 animation film of the same name from Mamoru Oshii and I am looking forward to seeing a live-action adaptation.

Johansson is one of the most exciting actresses around and she seems like the perfect fit for this movie. She is joined on the cast list by Beat Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche, Michael Pitt, Pilou Asbæk, and Kaori Momoi.

Ghost In The Shell follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9.

Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic's advancements in cyber technology.

Ghost In The Shell is released 31st March 2017.
