James Gunn has hinted that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is going to be a more 'emotional' movie than the first.

Gunn is set to return to the director's chair for the second - and already highly anticipated - Guardians of the Galaxy movie and the first draft of the scrip is already well in the can.

And Gunn has been dropping little teasers as to what we can expect from the film - doing so again at the Saturn Awards over the weekend.

Speaking to Collider, the director said: "It's going to be exciting. It is going to be a more emotional movie. It's both a bigger movie and a smaller movie because we focus more intensely on some of the characters," he explained.

We get to learn a lot more about fathers in the second movie, and we focus a lot on that."

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is just one of the sequels that is on the Marvel slate over the next few years and is set to hit the big screen in 2017.

While there has been no official word on who will star in the film, the likes of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Bradley Copper are all expected to return.

Guardians of the Galaxy hit the big screen for the first time last year and was both a critical hit and a commercial smash. The film is not the fourth highest grossing Marvel movie; behind Avengers Assemble, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Iron Man 3.

Earlier this year Chris Pratt - who takes on the role of Peter Quill in the first film - hinted that we may see him character appear in other Marvel movies outside of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.

As for Gunn, he has serving as writer and producer on new horror/thriller The Belko Experiment - which is filming right now - with Greg McLean in the director's chair.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is released 28th April 2017.
