Cavill is set to return to the role of Clark Kent next year in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. While this is a sequel to Man of Steel, Dawn of Justice is set to focus on the introduction of Batman and pave the way for a Justice League movie.

And the British actor is not concerned about his character, saying there will be more opportunities to develop and explore Superman further down the line.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the actor said: "There's plenty of time for individual Superman sequels. He's a tough character to tell. People like the darker vigilante. I think it speaks to the human psyche more easily rather than the god-like being that we can't really understand.

"Once we have a more expansive universe we can delve more into the character of Superman and hopefully tell more stories."

Dawn of Justice is already one of the most talked about movies of 2016 and will see Cavill reunite with director Zack Snyder for the first time since the success of Man of Steel.

Dawn of Justice will see Ben Affleck introduced as Batman for the first time, while Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, and Jesse Eisenberg are also on board as Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Lex Luthor.

As for Cavill, we are set to see him return to the big screen this summer in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. as he teams up with Guy Ritchie and Armie Hammer for a new adaptation of the sixties television show of the same name.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. will be the first time film outing for Cavill since Man of Steel. This is the only time that we are going to see Cavill before he returns in Dawn of Justice.

Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice is released 25th March 2016.
